New Streets and Jack’s Bench!
Last Summer, the City Council was tasked with naming the alley behind the Theater. In response to a community survey and the input from our Citizen’s Advisory Committee, they not only chose an alley name, but gave a commemorative name to a segment of 223rd street, and approved an honorary bench in recognizing local icon; Jack Kelsey.
Please join us on Saturday, March 29, at 10:30, on the corner of 223rd and 7th Ave, as we celebrate these new community spots, and unveil Jack’s Bench!

I appreciate the work of our Legislators! While they are doing long days in Olympia, they are continuing to reach out into the community to offer information and answer questions.
Our 33rd Delegation opened the doors at Highline College’s HUB on Sat, 3/15 . . .
And our 30th visited with the community at the Federal Way Library on 3/22.

Q & A
How is our new City Manager doing? Katherine Caffrey just had her first quarterly check-in with the City Council and is moving forward with hearty thanks from not only the Council, but the Staff and the community. In only a handful of months, she has not only reorganized and balanced the budget, but led in new Staff paradigms, training, and City planning. In addition, she has prioritized citizens and organizations, built bridges, mended relationships, and is investing personally into our community. Touche, Katherine!

Meetings & Events
As President of Sound Cities, it was a privilege to host this gathering of regional leaders to hear from our Executive about our past, present and future in King County.
It was an honor to join with Mayor Jim Ferrell in speaking to the American Association of University Women about our cities; their strengths and vision for the future.
It was exciting to gather with other regional leaders to welcome a new development – including a new food bank – into town! Check it out at 278th and Pacific Highway:
One of my favorite events each year; The King County Sexual Assault Resource Center “Be LOUD Breakfast” was moving and inspiring. With Sexual Assault Awareness Month coming, if you would like to make a difference, click here.
Hearing from CEO Joe Sprague – Alaska Air – was encouraging in that we have a growing air and cargo economy. But, we most certainly need another international airport to accommodate this growth!
In response to a recent tragedy in our Metro system, a new Safety Task Force is being formed and it was a privilege to participate in the kick-off with Chief Boe.
New Businesses
Check out a couple of our new businesses in town!
• New and updated “Laundry Day” in the Safeway Parking Lot on 216th
• Zev Co-op Electric Car Sharing – in the Marina, next to the Harbormaster’s office
