Welcome to the Finance Department at the City of Des Moines!
We are committed to ensuring the city’s financial stability and transparency through a wide range of services. Our team manages the City’s financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, vendor payments, payroll, and revenue and tax collection.
Starting in 2024, we have adopted a biennial budget cycle to better plan for the future, beginning with the 2025-2026 Biennial Budget. Our Annual Financial Statements are prepared on a cash accounting basis and undergo a thorough audit by the Washington State Auditor’s office each year. Additionally, we provide forecasts for revenue and expenditures, oversee financial activities, and assist with grant administration. Our goal is to keep Des Moines running smoothly and responsibly, always with transparency and accountability at the forefront.
