Small “Container” Retail on the Marina Floor

At the Marina Redevelopment Community Open House held in October 2017, residents expressed preferences for retail, restaurants and similar uses along the Marina Floor. Recently, there has been interest in utilizing engineered structures either made from repurposed shipping containers or custom-designed as space for retail businesses prior to more permanent structures being developed. These structures will follow design guidelines to ensure an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Business owners could lease space to site temporary or long-term container-type structures for use as retail shops or restaurants. As the property owner, the City is taking the initiative to identify and permit appropriate locations for these facilities relative to public access, utilities/infrastructure and the marina paid parking, and to require high-quality design.

Currently, there is one potential applicant interested in utilizing a space in the parking lot to the north of the Marina offices. The business is working toward opening prior to the summer of 2018.
